Day 22 - Olso-Frederikshavn

6 juli 2015 - Frederikshavn, Denemarken

The last day in Norway was very relaxing and ended with a bang! :-D

Ina and me woke up around 12h; laying in bed was a good thing to do, since we knew this day wouldn't be so nice. But it was actually pretty good weather, since it didn't start raining jet.
We had serial breakfast and continued our relaxed morning routine. We went into the city centre to buy a tent and water plant (for her fish Rambo).
We walked to the centre, which is about 5km downhill. The weather was grey but sometimes sunny. In the city we found the items quickly and afterwards we rewarded ourselves by a cappuccino. Going back by bus was fun: Ina showed her snowboard-skills in the middle of a 'harmonica-bus' ^^
At home we made wraps which turned out to be very hoy and spicy! :-)

At 18h, the time had come to leave. I had a fantastic time here and Ina is a great host. Maybe I will see her in Holland next week.
It always starts raining when you get onto your bike; this of course happened to me too at this moment :-( Luckily it was only 5km to the harbour. When I arrived it was pretty dry...

At the Stena Line harbour it was busy: many Norwegian people (young families) going on vacation. There were many cyclist (families) as well: we were the first to enter the boat, driving on the car deck. The bikes were strapped to the boat, so the wouldn't fall down. "Is this really necessary?" I asked myself. I didn't know what would come later tonight.

The journey (Oslo-Frederikshavn) started peacefully in the Oslo Fjord. The weather still wasn't nice, it rained often and wind blew pretty hard. The boat was full of people, I scanned all decks and visited the tax free shop (which is only 2x as expensive as in NL, instead of 3x ;-) After eating a pizza slice I spent my last money on chocolate.

Around 10h there was a magic show, which was fun. While the show was playing, you could feel the boat go up and down. We finally had left the Fjord and got to the open sea. After the show I went outside: the boat actually shocked violently over the waves. I never experienced something like this. Everything in the ship was shaking: it was almost hard to walk around.
When I came outside hell broke loose! Wind was extreme and waves were high! Even standing on deck 8 (at least 30m above sea level) wind blew the water on the deck! The boat hit waves pretty hard and everything was going up and down! A lot of adrenaline flowed true my body: this was serious busyness. I talked to some other people outside; one of them (a valve engineer) was very impressed by this nature violence and the forces that were acting on the ship ^^ Nice to talk to someone who understands that sleeping under the car deck in stormy weather is a good thing ;-)
As I went to bed around 0:30, the sea was still very wild! Every 30 seconds the boat is rocked and everything in the room which isn't tight made a noise. With a roller-coaster feeling I went to bed :-)
