Day 16 - Göteborg-Uddevalla

30 juni 2015 - Uddevalla, Zweden

Today was fantastic day: sun was shining all day! As if my cycling trip had started today! :-D

The morning started around 9h, eating a breakfast and leaving Eva's place at 10h. I enjoyed my time in Gothenburg, but now I had to go. Gothenburg looked pretty with sunshine, as if it was another city!

As I got on the tall bridge over the Göte, the bridge was open! A nice time to enjoy the view over the city. After driving over the bridge, I came into an industrial area. Here someone asked me the way; this was not the first time that happened. I'm glad to help some people here too :-)
Driving out of the city was easy, alongside the motorway. For 25km not much special happened.

When I came the the first town (Kungälv), the landscape started to change! Hills started arise and pineapple threes dominated the forest. It was all very nice. From Steningsgrund onwards I took a small ferry. During my wait I ate an ice cream :) When I got to the other side, I came to another world! The hills, the threes, the fields, the cows, the sheep: it was all so nice! :-D This is what I imagined when cycling in Scandinavia: I am living the dream! ;-)

The wind was quite hard and (to the end) hills became quite steep. Going up and down is not always good for the moral, since you get tired and average speeds are not fantastic. But as the sun was shining, I was still happy.
When I did groceries at a supermarket (in a small village), I saw a homeless person in front of the shop. This is something I see a lot here in Sweden, in both small and big cities. Compared to the Netherlands, were homeless people sell there 'street-paper', this doesn't gave a good feeling about the integration system.

The last 15km were hard, but at the same time very beautiful. The roller-coaster roads alongside the water ('fjord') were fantastic! :-) At the end (last 5km), navigation became crucial, since I was in a deserted area were only little number of road signs exist. Nature was everywhere, but civilization couldn't be farther away! The hills at the end were pretty though too: with steep inclination slow speeds of 10km/h uphill were normal.
At the end I couldn't find the road which led to the house of my Couchsurfer. I found some locals that could direct me the right way :-) These nice Swedish people didn't speak English, but with a little bit of German they could tell me were to go.

I arrived at my next Couchsurfer at a farm in the middle of nowhere. Sebastian was actually busy installing PV panels: cool! He was doing al kinds of projects on his farm, working on 20 (or maybe 50) at the same time! Interesting concept ;-)
The farm included multiple ducks, a vegetables garden, many small buildings (including 3 sauna's) and a workshop. I helped Sebastian with with carrying wooden planks to the sauna that was under construction. On the farm I met several people who had done volunteer-work for multiple months: Franco from the Canary Islands, Helan from Turkey, and people from Germany and Sweden. Interesting to talk to them and learn about their views on the world.
Together with Franco (the 'duke') and the German girl we went into the forest. It was quiet and peaceful. The only sound you could hear were the birds.
When we came back we ate something and started watching Black Mirror. A series about technology and psychology. Funny, but a bit too TV'ish for me ^^ After watching TV we went to bed.
