Day 12 - Helsingborg-Halmstad

26 juni 2015 - Halmstad, Zweden

This day brought me some interesting new things: shining sun, a 'real' climb and an Arabic Couchsurfer!

The day started early, around 06:45. I can't remember waking up this early ^^ Linn had to go to work on time, so we had a quick breakfast and I packed my backs. I actually waited to go outside the basement to let the sun do its work: heating up the morning air temperature of 12°C.

I started cycling at 07:45 when I noticed wind was blowing quite hard, from the seaside.Though the weather looked nice, constant cooling down by fresh air ensured I was wearing my sweater for the 12th day already! If only I had know ^^

The trip today started relatively flat: I could almost hit maximum speeds of 20km/h (which is slow for this type of landscape). As I progressed I got to an air plane museum, near a military airfield. I saw a cool fighter plane (see video) and a nice peace of grass to lay on: very relaxing :-)
After the stop my first real mountain climb started. It was not so high, I estimate about 120m inclination. But still a climb. Luckily the road wasn't to steep, so it was not to hard. Going down was another story: a steep decent in a straight line: I could have hit 70 or 80km/h easily, but I kept the speeds down to 45km/h max. It wasn't a good idea to fall of my bike seen my bike was packed, it has relative small brakes and I don't were a helmet.

Once I was down the hill, I came to a 'beach town': a place with only vacation homes and camping sites close to the beach. It was nice to cycle here, also true the pineapple forest. As I had only 25km to go, I made a stop and chilled on an outdoor sofa. Yeah! B-)

The last part was going good, cycling along nice forests and Swedish country roads. Even a small bit alongside the motorway. A big lorry honked at me: maybe it was the Macedonian driver I talked to yesterday, who knows! ;)

At 15:15 (quite early) I arrived to the Couchsurfer I just contacted 15 hours ago! How strange life can be! :-)
Mister Basha (also the Duke!) was a 'special' guy originally from Yemen. He was a real interesting person with lots of stories! He trained in the Iraq military and his father was a diplomat: he showed me his special passports. Very cool! He made me and his friend a very nice meal, which we ate after sundown, since it was Ramadan. We had a lot of fun and a lot (that means 3 x 1/2L for me) of beer, after which I slept like a rock ;-)
