Day 9 - Vordingborg-København

23 juni 2015 - København, Denemarken

Today I arrived at my second big city: København! The trip towards it was tough, but I made it! :-)

The day started nice: I woke up because the sun was shining! Eating a breakfast and packing my bags: around 10:30 I left the farm.
As I was cycling I noticed that the wind was blowing the wrong way. Also dark clouds were gathering and it started to rain, which meant I had to stop only after 15km. As the clouds went away, sun came back, but after that I had a small shower again. Rain, hard wind and 15°C: I guess this is a typical Danish summer!
At the beginning I also had a lot of hills on my route; they were pretty though. The advantage of going on small roads is that you have very little traffic and the scenery is nice, but at the same time roads are smaller and steeper. So I decided to drive onto the main roads again, which are very straight (bit boring) but much easier :-)

Another thing that was bothering me was my bad rear tire! I didn't find a place to pump it: I actually didn't look for it ^^

Once I was near Køge (50km from København) things were starting to look better: one straight road to the capital. Since the coastal area was urban area from Køge to København, it felt like driving true town forever! Luckily I saw the beach some times, which looked nice.

In the afternoon I came in København! Joana hosted me: this PhD student from Portugal had some plans for tonight. But first we made a pasta and had good conversation. Afterwards we cycled true the city centre towards the beach were a celebration was being held with a bong fire! (Everywhere in the city) The celebration was in the name of some Saint: he was already celebrated long time before they figured out that the longest day was 2 days ago! ^^
We met some other PhD people, one from the Netherlands actually. We had a nice time on the beach, watching the fire. The witch and all evil spirits were burning that evening. We sat at a cool location were we could see planes land and also see the tall bridge to Sweden! Also some music was playing: everything so nice! :D
Around midnight we were home and went to sleep.
